How does someone become a saint?

Two 19th century nuns, Marie Alphonsine Ghattas and Mariam Bawardy, have been declared saints, or canonised. But how does someone become a saint in the eyes of the Vatican - the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church?

The Vatican

Step one: Wait five years - or don't

The process to make someone a saint cannot normally start until at least five years after they have died.
Some have had to wait a long time before reaching Catholic sainthood. Saint Bede, the theologian, died in 735 but it was 1,164 years before he was declared a saint.

The 9 Reasons To Take Vacation According To Science

It's a fact now that most Nigerian workers aren't taking any vacations. And you're probably one of them. You hoard up your precious vacation days and keep saying you'll use them, but something gets in the way. Maybe it's your workload, or, maybe, like others, you're totally scared that you're going to lose your job. The most common reason why people weren't taking vacation was because they possess what researchers call a "martyr" complex, in which they believe that no one else can do their job as well as they can. Yet more than 20 percent of people who don't take vacations say they skip out because they are afraid they feel they are easily replaceable.

The Seven Benefits Of Smiling And Laughing that you didn't know about

Smiling and laughing can have a positive effect on your well-being, but as you make the transition from child to adult, you often tend to lose the habit of indulging in these behaviors. A good example of this is a children’s playground: You often see the kids running around, constantly laughing and smiling as they enjoy living in the moment, while the parents sit around the edge, full of the stresses that modern life can bring, with the occasional grin breaking their otherwise serious facial expressions.

Why It’s Great to Have a Stubborn Child.

Years ago, in preschool, a teacher sent my youngest child, Bianca, to sit by herself until she was ready to talk about something she’d done wrong. She sat through circle time. She sat through snack time. She sat through recess and story time and music. It wasn’t until lunchtime that she finally decided to talk. The teacher was surprised by her determination. Me? Not so much.
