Kogi rerun: INEC reverses decision, declares PDP candidate winner

Barely 24 hours after the Kogi Central Senatorial rerun election was declared inconclusive, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has reversed its decision and declared the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, Ahmed Ogembe as the winner. National Mirror gathered that the returning officer has admitted that there was mistake somewhere and that the mistake has been corrected which now pave way for the PDP candidate to emerge as the winner of last Saturday Kogi Senatorial rerun election.

The Returning Officer, Mr. Professor Rotimi Ajayi who reported the incident at the State Headquarters of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC was ordered to return to Okene to announce the result with immediate effect. Announcing the result at Okene Local government. INEC office, Ajayi disclosed that the people of the affected area assisted by providing for the original voters register and fell short to what was originally believed to be the number of registered voters in the area. The Returning Officer therefore declared Hon. Ahmed Salawu Ogembe as the winner of Kogi Central Senatorial seat having polled 46,305 votes , while Senator Nurudeen Usman Abate of PPA scored 32,169 votes and Dr. Moses Wokili of SDP polled 10,064 votes. The winner, Ogembe expressed gratitude to God for making it possible for him to win this election, pledging that he will not disappoint the people of his constituency
